Today, we are going to deal with how to express WISHES in English!!!

1. To express WISHES in FUTURE.
We use WOULD when we want something or someone to change or when we want sb to do sth :
Subj. + WISH + Subj. + WOULD + Infinitive
Ex. I wish it would stop raining.


2. To express WISHES in PRESENT.
We use the Past S. or Past Cont., when we talk about a regret we have about a Present situation.

3. To express WISHES in PAST:
We use the Past Perf. when we talk about a reget we have about soth that happened or didn't happen in the past.

Review Questions and Answers with "Where is Waldo?"




Hi, there!,

When I was a child, I loved the books called "Where is Waldo?". It was so entertaining! While I was looking for Wally, I was having a great time looking at the people around this character, they were playing football in Rome!, a child was chasing a cat; suddenly you could see a dwarf in the middle of a Roman stadium, etc. These books are so funny that I like using them at the end of some lessons, especially if I'm teaching the 1st year of Secondary.

Therefore, if you're an English teacher, I encourage you to pick up one of this book and use this in one lesson. You can ask your pupils to use and review all the verbal forms, in that way:
1. Ask children to work in pairs.
2. The students can spend 5 min. making up questions related to the pages of the book using different tenses.
3. They can ask their classmates, such as: Where is the man falling down the ladder?, How many children are jumping from a roof?, What is Waldo doing?
4. They are going to learn as well as have fun!
5. You, as a teacher, can correct their pronunciation and intonation.

6. You can also use this book to describe the charaters using different adjectives.
7. This book can be helpful to review Relative Clauses or other grammar points.

Teaching QUESTIONS and ANSWERS (part 1) ESL

These days, we are learning how to make questions when we are given the answers. Firstly, we have to pay attention to the verbal form / tense of the answer, and then, we must think off the WH- question. Let me explain, if the answer is: He loves chocolate, the missing word in the question has to be "chocolate", because of that, we use: WHAT to start the English question.

Therefore, we have to bear in mind the WH-Questions in English:

WHAT: What are you doing? I'm studying English.

WHICH: Which is your favourite car? Which one do you prefer?

WHERE: Where does your father work? My father works in a big department store.

WHEN: When did you arrive? Well, we arrived at five.

WHO:

a) Subject Question: Who broke the ancient vase?

John broke the ancient vase.

It is very easy to make a Sbj.Q., just copy everything from the answer except the Subj., ok?

b) Object Question: Who were you playing tennis with? I was playing tennis with Susan.

WHY: Why do you get up early on Sundays? I get up early on Sundays because I train football.

HOW: How are you? Fine, thank you! / How do you come to school? I come to school by bus.

How old: How old are you? I'm 18 (years old).

How long: How long have you been learning English?

I've been learning English since I was 6.

How long ago:How long ago did you arrive? We arrived three hours ago.

How far: How far is Seville from Madrid? It's 500km far.

How often: How often does Karen tidy her bedroom?
She tidies her bedroom twice a week.

How much: How much does this dress cost? It costs 50$.
How many: How many students are there? There are 150 students in the gym now.

Saint Valentine's Day is coming soon....



Hi, Guys!,




There is one week left to Saint Valentine's Day! Therefore, I'd like to tell you that there are several opinions of its origin.




Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14th to honour St. Valentine.

Gradually, February 14th became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. There was often a social gathering or a ball.

In the United States, Miss Esther Howland is given credit for sending the first valentine cards. Commercial valentines were introduced in the 1800's and now the date is very commercialised. The town of Loveland, Colorado, does a large post office business around February 14th. The spirit of good continues as valentines are sent out with sentimental verses and children exchange valentine cards at school.


From that moment onwards, Saint Valentine's Day is celebrated around the world. Nevertheless, everyday is a good excuse to say I love You,do you agree with me?

Last Tuesday, a friend of mine who is learning English (like all of us) asked me about the differences between these constructions: I'd rather, I'd prefer, I feel like,
I fancy..
. Because of that, I've just decided to explain them to YOU!
Let's have a look at! or FANCY THAT!

1. I'd rather is followed by Past tenses in the same way as WISH. It is used to express a personal preference about actions.

Ex: I'd rather you didn't get back so late. (Pres.)

Ex: I'd rather drink coke than coffee. (Pres.)

Ex: I'd rather not go by bus, if possible.

Ex: I'd rather have lived in Ancient Greece than Ancient Rome. (past)

WE ARE THE WORLD, WE ARE THE CHILDREN

Hi, Guys!,


This fantastic song was first sung by many well-known singers, such as Michael Jackson, Bruce Sprinteen, a long time ago, when these celebrities wanted to collect much money to help poor African children. These days, one of my favourite singer, Celine Dion, has met other important singers to perform this song. Once again, everybody is together, all of us want to help vulnerable people in particular children from HAITÍ. We wish these people could recover as soon as possible. This song also reminds me of "It's Time to Change" by Juanes, another singer who is deeply worried about unprotected people. Now, let's listen to its significant lyrics!
